Welcome to my new and hopefully improved page of Third Day concert
photos and clips. I've been a fan of the band since their first
"Bus" CD back in 1996, but never actually attended my first concert
until October of 2004 in Fayetteville, NC. Since then, I've been
making up for lost time, catching several concerts a year, some up
in Virginia, some down in South Carolina, and occasionally right
here in North Carolina (although, apparently NOT for the fall leg of
the WYA tour. Not even for the State Fair, where Third Day was one
of only two concerts that sold OUT last year, and the first time I
didn't have to drive for at least an hour and a half to see them. :(
) But I digress...
I've
been snapping pictures and shooting short movie clips at every
concert that I've been to thus far. In fact, I'd bet that if you saw
me you'd not actually recognize me unless I had a camera stuck in
front
of my face :) Like so. However, since I've never NOT worn my orange
Gomer shirt to a concert since I got it, even if you don't recognize
my face behind that camera, the shirt might very well be a dead
giveaway that it's me. Yes, tis I, The Unknown Gomer. :)
But enough about me, on with the Third Day concerts!
All but the Fayetteville show were shot with my Nikon Coolpix 8800.
Not the cheapest or smallest camera in the world, but it's great for
everything from concert shots to astronomy pictures and everything
in between, so I figure it was money well spent. The Fayetteville
show was shot with my old Sony Mavica camera. It was cutting edge
when I bought it, but compared to today's standards, it's very lo-res,
and the floppy disc storage? Compared to needing just one 1 GB CF
card, well, there's just no comparison. :)
And as a
complete side note, I'd just like to again say thank you to the
band for including this page in their list of fan links
in the blog on their website. That was kind of
a neat surprise when I first saw it, and still tickles me to this day to
see it up there. :)
THE
CONCERTS
After
thinking I wasn't going to get to see any of Third Day's summer
shows (no shortage of concerts though this year though; I saw Jeremy
Camp 3 different times:
Winter Jam in February, Sonfest at Carowinds, and
Kingsfest . Yay!),
I debated on whether or not to make the drive down to the South
Carolina State Fair later this year. Until I saw that they were
going to be playing in Charlottesville, VA in August. Bang-Zoom!
Forget the SCSF (which I'm sure, if it's anything like the NCSF,
it's crowded as all get out), I opted to go NORTH to see 3D instead,
especially when I wrangled front row center seats for Doug and me
for it. Woot! :D And a great lineup: Australian band
Revive (their first US
performance ever, they were excellent),
Sanctus Real (who I'd seen
from about 25 rows back at Winter Jam, and LOVED, so was really
looking forward to seeing them from the front row this time), and
Third Day. Other than a sudden rainstorm that flooded the stage in
between Revive and Sanctus Real, for the most part the night went
great.

Last
concert of the tour for me, the show in Columbia, SC. I hadn't
been planning on going to this one, especially since I didn't know
it was actually going to be taking place until sometime after both
the pre-sale and general sale tickets had been put on sale already.
The last I'd heard was that this one was maybe going to be in
Kentucky, so I hadn't been paying a whole lot of attention to it.
In any case, I picked up a pair of second row (but all the way to
the left, so didn't see a lot of Brad or Scotty that night :( )
tickets on ebay and sat with fellow Gomer Betty for the night. It
was supposed to be Leeland, HSU, and Third Day, but the rumor
floating around was that HSU's bus broke down and they weren't going
to be there that night. Glad I saw them in Greenville then, short
set that it was. So it turned out to be just Leeland and Third Day.
This
was a fun one, the Third Day/HSU/Leeland show in Greenville, SC.
Drove the two and a half hours to my friend Doug's place in Concord
first, then he drove us the two hours further into Greenville, where
we made it with just enough time to find our seats before HSU came
on. I was surprised to see them play FIRST, and such a short set to
boot :(, before Leeland took the stage for THEIR set. Then for the
main attraction. :) Great show, even if I was having to do a little
Todd-Dodging being in the second row (not to mention that I was
still hobbling around on a bad ankle from when I had a run in with
some uneven pavement in my driveway a few weeks back). Tai posed for
a few pics for me during the set, and Mac tossed me a guitar pick,
which was cool, even if it was initially fumbled. The rest of the
weekend was great too, hung out with Doug in Concord until Sunday;
he showed me the Concord Mills mall, had some great food at On The
Border, and I kicked his butt at miniature golf (if winning by all
of one stroke can be considered "kicking butt".)
Next up: A repeat
of the concert, in Columbia, SC this time. Should be another busy
weekend: got the concert Friday night, then a 1PM Saturday showing
of the new Bond flick "Casino
Royale", dinner at the mall, and then a Carolina Hurricanes
hockey game that night. Whew. I may need time off to recover from my
time off. :D

It always seems
like I start out a new concert listing with "Finally!", but FINALLY,
I've got the pictures and the QT clips from the Carolina Crossroads
concert in Roanoke Rapids uploaded and ready for access. Great
concert. Third Day played first, which was a first for me, and then
Steven Curtis Chapman took the stage. Another first, I'm pretty much
unfamiliar with 99% of SCC's music and had never seen him live
before. I was impressed, although unlike with my first exposure to
Jeremy Camp at Kingsfest, after seeing SCC at Crossroads, I did NOT
get the burning desire to buy up every one of his CDs ever released
(it took me about 3 weeks, but I think I'm pretty well caught up on
all of JC's stuff now. :D )
Got the pics
and clips pages from the Kingsfest show at Kings Dominion
in Doswell up and online. Five bands: Hyper Static Union,
Falling Up, Hawk Nelson, Jeremy Camp, and gee, can't
think of the name of that last band... *think think
think*... oh YEAH. And Third Day. A couple of speakers,
lots of flying stuff like shirts, Dr. Pepper bottles,
sunshades. And someone actually brought "Gomer
Bear" ;-) And best of all? RESERVED SEATING!
Hallelujah! :D So much better than General Admission. And
front row center for the first time ever to boot. Woot!
:D
And did
anyone happen to catch the awesome moon that night? Two
days short of being full, but still a pretty cool sight
to behold. Got a couple of nifty shots of it behind the
Eiffel Tower there in the Kings Dominion main plaza.

Photos
and Clips from the July 1st summer show in Fort Mills are now up.
Darn near keeled over from the heat holding a front row spot in the
GA seating on the infield near the stage before the show, but it was
worth it. :) All three bands (Leeland, HSU and, of course, Third
Day) were excellent.
Re the webpage construction, I split the difference this time; used
my old program to set up the photo page, and the newer program to
set up the clips page. So they're back on two different pages again,
in two completely different styles, but at least this way it took
less time to get them online and kept the pages not quite so
cluttered.

They're
FINALLY up, the Pics and Clips from the final show of the
spring leg of Third Day's "Wherever You Are"
tour, including some pics with the guys from 3D when they
came out to mingle for a few hours during the Chevy
"Ride and Drive" test drive event in the
parking lot before the show. That was pretty cool, even
if I got a little crispy during the course of the afternoon. *ouch!* :)
I used a
different program to create the webpages this time, one
of which I'm NOT sure I like yet, but I'll toss it out
here and see what y'all think about it. Please post any
comments, for or against, on the 3D board.

Finally got
everything to "Come Together" enough to upload
my latest pictures and clips from the "1000th
show" at Liberty University in Lynchburg. What a
great trip! The show was awesome, and I was even greeted
by the sight of SNOW on the ground when I woke up the
next morning. TOO cool!

(Slow
connection? I consolidated all the
Lynchburg clips -
including a few short bits that I didn't include on the
clips page -
into one 20 minute streaming Real Media highlight reel.
Doesn't QUITE have the clarity of the originals, but
it'll work, I think.)
Annnnd,
since I unexpected found myself sitting in the second row
of the Carolina Theatre in Durham back on Wednesday night
(despite showing up at the venue sans ticket, but with a
whole lotta hope and a whole lotta faith that if I was
meant to get in, I would. And I did, courtesy of the
extra ticket that "ChefKat" had), I just
finished uploading the photos and clips for THAT show as
well.
The pics and
clips from the NC State Fair show are now up. It was a
difficult angle to shoot from, so I don't think they came
out as well as the ones from KingsFest, but they still
came out better than the ones I shot with the Sony a year
ago. :) Plus I was given the opportunity to take part in
my first ever Meet and Greet with the band before the
show, which, despite feeling a little rushed, I still got
some great shots and some happy little memories from it.
Thank you again Corrine, Wendy, and Third Day for setting
that up; it was uber-kewl. :)

The Sonfest concert at Carowinds and the Kingsfest concert at Kings
Dominion last year were only a couple of weeks apart, so I tend to
lump them together. But the pics from Kingsfest, even getting
downpoured upon from Tropical Storm Cindy, came out MUCH better than
the ones at Carowinds. Guess I learned from my mistakes at the first
show

KingsFest - Kings Dominion, VA - July 7, 2005 - Photos // Clips
The
Fayetteville show was shot with my low-res Sony Mavica
camera, from the reserved sideline seating, so the pics are not that
great, and what few clips I shot are pretty small and short. But I'm
including them, just for completeness's sake, since this WAS my
first ever Third Day show.
