Winter Jam 2007

Greensboro, NC -- February 17, 2007

A mix of pictures and QT clips that I shot with my Nikon that night.
The photos will all mostly be some size configuration (depending on how they were cropped) of 1024x768,
and the clip size and length will be listed under the screencap from each clip.

Note: If you're using IE and it complains when you try to view the clips, just tell it to "allow blocked content". I get that on MY computer too, and I'm the one who SHOT the things! *sigh*

Please do not repost pics or clips without permission. ThankYouThankYou! :)

FLIGHT FROM EGYPT

The early bird gets the worm, or in this case, an extra band. They were called "Flight From Egypt", and actually played before Britt Nicole. If I remember correctly, I think the drummer was all of 11 years old. I didn't think they were awful, but I didn't record a whole lot of clips from them, and only shot a couple of test pics, and marginal ones at that, to check the arena lighting.
(Of course, being the opening artists to the opening artists, I think they only played something like two songs.)

BRITT NICOLE

I think I actually shot LESS of Britt than I did of Flight From Egypt. She had a great voice, but someone said that she sounded a little like Cyndi Lauper, which if you closed your eyes, you could actually hear. I kept expecting her to break out into a rendition of "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". Her sense of fashion was definitely a little Lauper-like. ;-)
And did anyone else think her guitarist (didn't she borrow him from NewSong?) looked more than a little like
Peter Garrett, the lead singer of Midnight Oil?

ANDRE THE HOLLYWOOD COWBOY

Pass. He was certainly entertaining enough, but given how short Jeremy Camp's set was,
I would have much rather seen less of Andre and more of Jeremy,

SANCTUS REAL

Okay, now THIS was a band I could get into (can you not tell, given the number of clips and pics I shot during their set? :) ). It's always hard to hear what new music sounds like in a concert setting, since there tends to be so much distortion, but from what I could hear Saturday night, which was my first exposure to Sanctus Real, I liked these guys. I figure as soon as Sound and Spirit emails me an offer I can't refuse, I'll be picking up all three of their CDs. I was surprised to find out they had that many CDs out already, given where they were in the pecking order in the artist lineup and how many songs they were allowed to do.

NEWSONG / NATE SALLIE / "FREE STUFF!"

Was very interested in seeing what NewSong was all about, since Scotty Wilbanks, now playing the keys for Third Day, used to be a member. And they started out okay, but then they took a turn into the Gospel Zone, and I'm not really into gospel all that much. But things perked up again, after they went into a rousing rendition of "Shout" and "Sweet Home Alabama".

Just a shot of all the cell phone lights in the audience.
